Phytoremediation procedure and risk assessment in areas contaminated with metals - FITORISC

The objectives will be achieved through a modern interdisciplinary research implemented by a consortium of five institutions with a tradition in the field, including an institute of applied mathematics. The project will be led by a reintegrated researcher, benefiting from the international experience of numerous team members and the support of a European network.

  • Priority directions

    3.3.3 Eco-technologies for rehabilitation and ecological reconstruction; technologies for remediation of contaminated soils.

    3.3.5 Creation of databases and georeferenced meta-data, mathematical models and the infrastructure of the decision-making cycle.

  • Decision-making regarding the management of metal-contaminated areas

    1) assessment of the risk associated with the transfer of metals from the soil and, if this risk is substantial,

    2) establishing the optimal solutions for the remediation of the contaminated area. Bioremediation in general and phytoremediation in particular are among the most important directions for the development of remediation techniques internationally and are accompanied by the simulation of the effects of applying the techniques through mathematical modeling.

  • Our mision

    1. Characterization and mathematical modeling of the biogeochemical circuits of metals in contaminated areas.

    2. Experimental optimization and mathematical modeling of remediation solutions for contaminated areas.

    3. Developing the expert system for risk assessment and choosing the optimal remedial solution.

    The final users of the decision support tools produced in the project are explicitly consulted during their development activities.
